Seamaster
About the Omega Seamaster
The Omega Seamaster is the oldest collection from Omega that continues to be produced and developed today. More than 75 years after its introduction, the Seamaster has evolved from a water-resistant dress watch into one of the most comprehensive watch families in modern horology.
Over time, the collection has expanded to include professional diving instruments as well as versatile sports watches that can be worn daily without appearing excessive. This balance between technical capability and everyday usability is one of the reasons the Seamaster remains relevant across different generations of watch enthusiasts.
For many people, the Seamaster is closely associated with James Bond. Since 1995, several Seamaster models have appeared alongside the 007 character on screen. The choice was not purely symbolic; the Seamaster’s functional character and maritime heritage align naturally with the identity of the character.
At Luxehouze Singapore, every Seamaster available has undergone a careful verification process to ensure authenticity and condition in line with the standards maintained for each client.
History of the Omega Seamaster
The Seamaster was introduced in 1948 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Omega. During that same period, the brand introduced several watches that later became influential in the history of watchmaking.
Unlike the Omega Constellation, which was developed around mechanical precision, the Seamaster originated from practical needs. During the Second World War, Omega produced water-resistant watches for the Royal Navy. The Seamaster was a civilian evolution of this experience.
The earliest Seamaster models did not resemble modern dive watches. They appeared closer to dress watches but offered stronger water resistance compared with typical watches of that era.
The transition toward professional dive watches happened gradually as the demand for stronger water resistance increased. A key moment occurred in 1957 when Omega introduced the Omega Seamaster 300, the brand’s first dedicated dive watch and the foundation of the modern Seamaster family.
In 1963, the exploration team led by Jacques Cousteau used Seamaster watches during experimental diving projects.
The modern era of the Seamaster began in 1993 with the release of the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M. Its appearance in the film GoldenEye in 1995 introduced the watch to a wider audience. Later, the collection expanded with the Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra in 2002 and the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean in 2005, along with various special editions reflecting Omega’s evolving technology.
Key Characteristics of the Omega Seamaster
Although the Seamaster collection includes several distinct models, a number of characteristics remain consistent across the range.
Water resistance varies depending on the model:
- 150 meters for Aqua Terra
- 300 meters for Diver 300M
- 600 meters for Planet Ocean
- up to 1,200 meters for the Omega Seamaster Ploprof
Most models feature a screw-down crown to maintain water resistance during active use.
Modern Seamaster watches use Co-Axial Master Chronometer movements, which are resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss.
Professional diving models such as Diver 300M and Planet Ocean include a helium escape valve, designed for saturation diving environments.
Ceramic unidirectional bezels are commonly used for improved scratch resistance and long-term color stability.
Another recognizable detail is the wave-pattern dial used on the Diver 300M, which has become a signature design element of the collection.
Many models also feature a caseback engraved with the hippocampus (seahorse), a maritime symbol that has been associated with the Seamaster since its early generations.
Popular Omega Seamaster Models
1. Omega Seamaster Diver 300M
The Omega Seamaster Diver 300M is one of the most recognizable models within the Seamaster family and across Omega’s entire catalogue.
Introduced in 1993 and later appearing in GoldenEye (1995), the Diver 300M is defined by its crown guards, unidirectional bezel, helium escape valve at the 10 o’clock position, and skeletonized hands that provide excellent legibility.
Modern versions are powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806 (or 8800 for models with a date display). These movements are certified by METAS and resistant to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss.
One of the most discussed variations is the “No Time to Die” edition, created in collaboration with Daniel Craig. It features a titanium case, a tropical-tone brown dial, and a Milanese mesh bracelet, presenting a slightly different character compared with the conventional Diver 300M.
2. Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M
The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M represents the Seamaster’s more advanced diving capability. With water resistance up to 600 meters, it is designed for more demanding underwater conditions.
Its helium escape valve, ceramic bezel, and robust case construction reflect a stronger technical orientation. The watch is built to support professional diving activities where reliability is essential.
In terms of design, the Planet Ocean combines elements inspired by Seamaster watches from the 1960s with modern materials. Features such as the Arabic numerals at 12, 6, and 9, bold arrow-shaped hands, and bezels using Liquidmetal technology create a clear and functional aesthetic.
3. Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M
The Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra 150M was introduced in 2002 as a more versatile interpretation of the Seamaster concept.
Unlike the Diver 300M, the Aqua Terra does not include a rotating bezel or helium escape valve. Its design is cleaner and more restrained, making it suitable for both professional environments and casual settings.
One of its most recognizable details is the horizontal pattern on the dial, inspired by the wooden decks of sailing yachts. This element adds visual texture while maintaining a balanced and uncluttered appearance.
Aqua Terra models are available in sizes ranging from 38mm to 41mm with a wide selection of dial colors.
The model also became a platform for Omega’s anti-magnetic technology. In 2013, the “Above 15,000 Gauss” edition was introduced, becoming the first mechanical watch capable of resisting magnetic fields at that level.

FAQ – Omega Seamaster
- What is the difference between Seamaster Diver 300M and Planet Ocean?
Both are professional dive watches with helium escape valves. However, the Planet Ocean is designed for deeper diving with water resistance up to 600 meters, compared with 300 meters on the Diver 300M. The Planet Ocean usually has a thicker and more robust case with larger Arabic numerals for better underwater readability. The Diver 300M is slimmer and more versatile for everyday wear. Both models use modern Master Chronometer movements. - What is the difference between Aqua Terra and Diver 300M?
The Aqua Terra is designed more for an active daily lifestyle rather than professional diving. It does not include a rotating bezel or helium escape valve, but it still offers 150 meters of water resistance and a clean design suitable for office, travel, or light outdoor activities. The Diver 300M is a more technical dive watch with dedicated diving features. Both belong to the same Seamaster family but serve different purposes. - When did the Omega Seamaster become the official watch of James Bond?
Since 1995, when Pierce Brosnan wore the Seamaster Diver 300M in GoldenEye. Before that, the Bond character was often associated with the Rolex Submariner in earlier films. The change to Omega was suggested by costume designer Lindy Hemming, who noted that the Seamaster’s historical connection to the British navy suited Bond’s background as a former naval intelligence officer. Since then, several Seamaster models have appeared in films starring Daniel Craig as James Bond.
